5 Days / 4 Nights
*Cusco *Choquequirao *
This itinerary is a 10-day trip through the Cusco region of Peru, including visits to three important archaeological sites. The journey starts with a 5-day trek to Choquequirao, an ancient Inca city that was once a religious and administrative center. About Choquequirao, also known as the «Cradle of Gold» in Quechua, is a remarkably well-preserved Inca outpost situated on a promontory nearly 1,800 meters (6,000 feet) above the thundering Apurimac River Gorge. Often referred to as «The Other Machu Picchu,» this hidden gem remains off the beaten track.
Despite its similar construction and size to its sister city, Machu Picchu, Choquequirao was long underestimated and remained unknown for almost 300 years until its first restoration in 1993. It is believed to have served the same religious, political, and agricultural functions and was home to a population of similar size.
**Very important, one day prior we will have a briefing with our guide about the route, where we will have the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the trekking.
Our guide will pass by the hotel for the meeting and pick-up for our great adventure to Choquequirao between 6:30 and 7:00 am. Our transportation will take us for about 3 and a half hours to the archeological park of SAYWITE, where there is a stone carved by the Incas, where they designed many miniature architectures as a model. Besides, there are more ceremonial centers.
If departing from Abancay, the meeting point will be internally coordinated at around 9 am, to then climb up to the Saywite stone and visit that place.
After that, we will continue in the car for 1 more hour to Cachora, a place called Capuliyoc. Where we can enjoy our lunch with a view of the Apurimac Canyon and the Padreyoc snowcapped mountain. Then, we will start our adventure, descending for about 3 hours approximately.
