Payment to the Earth is a beautiful ceremony that expresses gratitude to Mother Earth, involving offerings of native cereals, fruits, and grains, as well as coca leaves. Led by a shaman, the offerings are burned and buried to complete the cycle, providing a profound connection to the natural world. These rituals are an opportunity to connect with the Andean culture and spirituality, and to gain a deeper understanding of the ancient practices that continue to shape the region today.
Itinerary schedule:
A coca leaf reading is an age-old Andean ritual that is employed to predict one’s future. This practice remains popular in the Andes to this day, led by shamans who have inherited their knowledge and skills from their forebears.
During this activity, you are free to ask specific questions, but bear in mind that coca leaves are viewed as messengers and the shaman will guide you on the best course of action to take for your future.
Payment to the Earth is another time-honored and revered ceremony that is still utilized by indigenous Andean communities as a way of expressing gratitude to Pachamama, or Mother Earth.
Conducted by a shaman, it involves arranging small quantities of native cereals, fruits, and grains, as well as coca leaves, as offerings. These are then burned so that they can return to their place of origin. Rising in smoke towards the sky, the ashes are subsequently buried to complete the cycle.
