Day 1: CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY

Your day will begin with a scenic journey to Chinchero, a charming Andean town perched atop the windswept plains of Anta, standing at an impressive altitude of 3762 meters above sea level and situated about 30km away from Cusco. From here, you’ll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Sacred Valley, including the majestic Vilcabamba mountain range with the prominent Salkantay peak dominating the western horizon. This mythical town, believed to be the birthplace of the rainbow, boasts adobe buildings and locals still wearing their traditional dress while going about their daily lives.

Next, you’ll get to visit the textile center of Andean weaver Nilda Callañaupa, where you’ll witness a captivating demonstration of local weaving techniques and gain a deeper understanding of the significance of weaving in contemporary culture. You’ll also discover other creative processes, such as spinning, braiding, and dyeing, using natural materials sourced from the Andean highlands. These techniques, refined over millennia, are among the world’s rarest and most prized. Many of them are unknown outside of Peru and have been passed down from generation to generation through traditional methods of communication, observation, and practice.
